The History of Heygates...
As the Domesday Book testifies there has been a mill on the very same site at Bugbrooke Northamptonshire for over one thousand years. The site is now the group’s headquarters situated next to the River Nene.
We are a family business which has farmed in Northamptonshire since 1562 and we moved into milling in the 19th Century, when the grandfather Mr Arthur Robert Heygate Senior of the present joint managing directors, Mr Paul Heygate and Mr Bob Heygate, took over the family mill at Bugbrooke.

...to the present day
Our group of companies now employs over 1000 staff, compared to just 20 in 1935. Our ten flour mills over four sites consume more than 500,000t of wheat a year, the vast majority coming from British farms. We produce more than 80 grades of flour for breads, cakes, pizzas, burger buns, chapattis, biscuits and more besides, supplying large manufacturing plants, in-store supermarket bakeries and craft bakers, delivering 24/7.

Due to geography and tradition, we remain strong supporters of British agriculture and will always favour locally sourced wheat in preference to imported substitution whenever possible.
As producers and manufacturers, our knowledge on the subject of wheat is extensive. Each variety has its own individual characteristic and fits specifically into the pocket of flour functionality.
